Strengths

Versatile and powerful interior defender. Great length in a prototypical frame. Quick at the snap. Can live in the backfield when at his best. Uses strong hands to shed blockers. Long straight arm can keep offensive linemen off his frame. Has the athleticism to split double teams and make the play. Rip move is very effective getting to the quarterback. Plus burst and bend as a pass rusher. Engulfing range as a tackler. Good field awareness. Keeps his hand and feet in sync while working to get upfield. Lined up at every interior spot for the Bulldogs. Model citizen by all accounts despite assault arrest prior to college.

Weaknesses

Gets sealed at the point of attack. Goes to the ground too easily. Suffered a torn ACL training for 2019 NFL Draft. Charged with simple assault for repeatedly striking a woman on the ground before enrolling at Mississippi State.

NFL comparison

Chris Jones – I think Jeffery Simmons will need to show more consistency at the next level, but if he does, he can be a force similar to Jones—an imposing three-technique with great length and versatility.

Conclusion

Overall, Jeffery Simmons is an intriguing prospect based on the flashes he showed in college, but I don’t view him as a blue-chip talent like others do. Combined with Simmons’ medical evaluation, teams will obviously need to decide if the seemingly genuine change is enough to forgive/forget the assault incident.
