Strengths

Extremely smooth perimeter corner. Tremendous feet and movement skills. Good overall size and looks longer than measurements suggest. Excellent speed and acceleration. Keeps a low and balanced base in coverage. Very quick reaction time. Smooth transitioning out of the backpedal. Outstanding awareness in zone coverage. Identifies underneath routes in short zone. Sticky and competitive. Great timing to play the ball at the catch point. Gets his head around to locate the deep ball. Not fooled by double moves. Fast to recover when receivers gain a step and won’t let them get open deep. High-level play as both man and zone corner. Reliable tackler that breaks down in space. Will chop down bigger players. Tough and fiery. Very confident. Should fit a variety of schemes at the next level. Split time at left and right cornerback.

Weaknesses

Hand placement in general needs improvement. Drew too many pass interference penalties and got away with others. Can get handsy at the top of routes. Needs to be wary of being on a receiver’s back when breaking up passes. A little slower reacting to cover in-breaking routes or crossers/drags. Limited ball production and doesn’t seem to have interceptions on his mind. Could be quicker getting off perimeter blocks.

Conclusion

Overall, Newsome II is a smooth, all-around cornerback with plus speed, instincts, and competitiveness on the outside. He can certainly be a very good man-to-man cornerback, but because of some of the penalty issues, I like his fit better in a versatile or zone-heavy scheme.
