Strengths

Great size and powerful overall build. Exceptional raw strength. Above-average length and knows how to use it. Hands are big and powerful to latch on. Very aggressive. Will double up on strikes. Able to send defenders back with a push. Bulldozer when he squares someone up. Bullies linebackers when he gets his hands on them. Can be absorbing as a puller. Shows feistiness with contact through the whistle. Seems to enjoy hitting guys. Quick to bury cuts by defensive lineman. Very strong holding up versus power in pass protection. Pretty much unaffected by clubs/strikes. Stays poised and will extend to get his hands on guys without lunging as a pass protector. Has made starts at left tackle. Admirably fought through adversity by returning from career-threatening blood clots that ended his 2018 season.

Weaknesses

Average mobility and overall athleticism. Needs to play with his legs underneath him more (particularly on move blocks). Ends up on the ground too much. Could be better recognizing delayed pressure. A bit deliberate with no one to hit in his vicinity. Struggled some versus Georgia in 2020.

Conclusion

Overall, Smith is a powerful and aggressive guard with the ability to punish defenders when he gets his hands on them. The best fit will likely come in a power-running scheme that allows Smith to bulldoze running lanes.
