Strengths

Very creative route runner. Great feet and quickness. Smooth overall stop-start ability. Explosive in and out of breaks. Quick twitch to create separation underneath. Outstanding contact balance and vision as a runner. Very tough with the ball in his hands. Extremely sudden juke move. Runs hard and consistently breaks/evades tackles. Used in a variety of ways to get touches. Soft hands and cleanly catches the ball. Quick to get his eyes on short passes. Tracks the deep ball very well when he gets vertical. Plus catch radius at his height. Will adjust to snag balls off his frame. Comfortable going across the middle and extending. Has experience lining up all over (including the backfield). Willing and effective as a blocker. Has no problems getting physical versus bigger defenders. Provides value as a return man.

Weaknesses

Would like to see more precision as a route runner with less open space to work with at the next level. Limited overall route tree. Will sometimes have too many steps in his release. Might be more flashy than he is deceptive for well-prepared defenders. Coverage can be unphased by early footwork. Top speed is average. Inconsistent separation at the top of routes.

Conclusion

Overall, Toney is a tough and creative playmaker with the ability to do plenty of damage with the ball in his hands, but he needs to clean some things up to improve his outlook as a pure wide receiver. Similar to his final season at Florida alongside Kyle Pitts, the best fit for Toney might be as a complementary target in a spread attack—plus with an extended role as a downfield weapon.
