Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Broncos re-signed Blake Bortles to the practice squad.

Bortles was recently released, but he's back in Denver as depth behind Drew Lock and company.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Broncos released Blake Bortles.

Drew Lock is ready to return for Denver, so this move was logical. Bortles will await another opportunity to potentially get on the field for a team this season.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Broncos are signing Blake Bortles, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Denver needs a quarterback with Drew Lock (shoulder) out for multiple weeks, and John Elway has quickly come to an agreement with the former No. 3 overall pick. Jeff Driskel showed very well last week off the bench and may remain the starter, but Bortles had seemed to be waiting for an opportunity to get back on the field, so it will be interesting to see what happens. For this week, it would be a surprise if Driskel wasn't under center against an underrated Tampa Bay defense.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles is signing with the Rams, according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington.

It felt like this was going to happen when it came out that Bortles was going to visit the Rams today, and the deal should be announced shortly. The third overall pick in the 2014 draft, the former Jaguars starter helps give the Rams one of the best backup quarterback situations in football. While playing in Sean McVay's offense, with rushing ability as a bonus, Bortles might deliver QB1 value if he had to see the field in the event of a Jared Goff injury.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Jaguars have released Blake Bortles.

Bortles, who was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, will end his Jacksonville career with 17,646 yards, 103 touchdowns, and 75 interceptions across 75 regular season games (73 starts) in five years. Of course, the highlight came just two seasons ago when he had New England on the ropes in the AFC Championship Game, and Bortles also tied for the league lead in touchdown passes (35) in 2015. Now, Jacksonville will hope new starting quarterback Nick Foles can lift them back into contention, and Bortles should soon land somewhere as a backup that can win games and make plays with his legs when called upon.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws one interception in Week 17.

Bortles was 15/28 for 107 yards and an interception along with four carries for 15 yards against the Texans. His season ends with 2,718 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions along with 58 carries for 365 yards and one touchdown in 13 games. Bortles signed a contract extension last offseason, but he's an obvious trade candidate that might even be cut outright if the Jags just want to move on, as he didn't take the step forward the team was hoping for. But with a big dead cap hit if he's cut, Jacksonville will likely just keep him on the roster even if he isn't the starter. The Jaguars quarterback situation is one of the most intriguing storylines for the 2019 offseason.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles will start at quarterback for the Jaguars in Week 17.

After not playing the previous three games prior to last Sunday when he entered the game for Cody Kessler, Bortles is back as the starter to end the regular season. The Texans are a beatable secondary, but Bortles is obviously very difficult to trust in fantasy lineups with titles on the line against them this week. This could be Bortles' final start with the Jaguars, but the quarterback situation is up in the air as the 2019 offseason approaches.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles makes relief appearance in Week 16 win.

Replacing a banged-up Cody Kessler (shoulder), Bortles was five-of-six for 39 yards, also adding four carries for 25 yards. The Jaguars were able to end the playoff hopes for Miami on Sunday, and if he starts next week, Bortles might get a chance to ruin Houston's bid for an AFC South crown. Despite their struggles in the secondary, though, fantasy owners would have to be pretty bold to trust Bortles in a fantasy title bid.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Jaguars have benched Blake Bortles.

At 3-8 and last in the AFC South, the Jaguars are giving Cody Kessler, who has played well when given opportunities, a shot. After getting a contract extension in the offseason, Bortles remained inconsistent in 2018. There's a chance he can reclaim the starting job at some point, but he might be done with the Jaguars regardless of how Kessler plays to end the season.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles, Jaguars fall to 3-8 with 24-21 loss in Buffalo.

Bortles was 12/23 for 127 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, also adding six rushes for 39 yards. Jacksonville trailed 14-0 after the first quarter, but they were able to tie things up at 14-14 by halftime. However, the turning point of the game came on a touchdown-turned-brawl in the second half, as Donte Moncrief was originally ruled in for six, but he was marked short of the goal-line, and Leonard Fournette was ejected after the play for fighting Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson; after that, the Jags were stuffed and missed a chip-shot field goal, and Buffalo ended up going ahead three plays later. Bortles might have a couple big performances up his sleeve down the stretch, but he can't be trusted in fantasy lineups with playoffs on the line.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles, Jaguars fall to 3-7 as Pittsburgh scores 20 unanswered points in 20-16 defeat.

Bortles was 10/18 for 104 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions, also adding two carries for 17 yards and a lost fumble. Jacksonville was ultra conservative as they played with the lead, as Leonard Fournette led the team in receiving with 46 yards, and no wideout had 20+ yards on the day. Bortles can have a big fantasy day out of no where, but it's probably better to look elsewhere with a trip to face the Bills on deck.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws two touchdowns against the Colts.

Bortles had one of his best games of the season in the Jaguars' Week 10 loss, going 26/38 for 320 yards and two touchdowns along with two carries for eight yards. One touchdown was to Leonard Fournette off a play-action fake at the goal line, and the other was an 80-yarder to Donte Moncrief. Bortles is now up to 14 touchdowns and three interceptions in his career against the Colts, as he always seems to play well against them. He next faces a Steelers team he played well against last season including a playoff win, but there's certainly downside in using Bortles as your QB1.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles, Jaguars fall to 3-5 with 24-18 loss to the Eagles in London.

Bortles was 24/41 for 286 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions, also adding eight carries for 43 yards on the ground. Jacksonville only ran it eight times for 18 yards with their running backs, so everything was on Bortles across the pond, and they couldn't find the end zone on a couple potential game-winning scoring drives in the fourth quarter. Overall, Bortles made plays with his legs, but he still showed inconsistency as a passer, and at the midpoint of the season, the 26-year-old is on pace for over 4,000 passing yards with just ten touchdowns. He won't be a recommended fantasy option coming out of Jacksonville's Week 9 bye.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Jaguars have announced that Blake Bortles will remain the team's starting quarterback.

This is a mild surprise after head coach Doug Marrone said he would talk to the team before naming the starter, but they are sticking with Bortles over former third-round pick Cody Kessler. After Bortles was benched against the Texans, Kessler played well with 156 yards, one touchdown, and one interception (which bounced off T.J. Yeldon's hands), but they aren't giving up on the guy who led them to the AFC Championship Game quite yet. Bortles is expected to have a short leash next Sunday in London against the Eagles, so he is almost impossible to trust for fantasy owners. Look for Jacksonville to run early and often with Carlos Hyde in Week 8.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Jaguars have benched Blake Bortles.

With zero points nearly five minutes into the third quarter, the Jaguars have made the move to Cody Kessler. We've been high on Kessler as an efficient passer that should get the ball on accurately and allow his receivers to make plays, and there might be a chance he can runaway with the starting job if he plays well today against the Texans. Before leaving, Bortles  was 6/12 for 61 yards with six carries for 30 yards and two fumbles lost.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Jaguars offense struggles against the Cowboys.

Blake Bortles was 15/26 for 149 yards, one touchdown, and one interception along with four carries for 22 yards in the 40-7 Week 6 loss. The offense couldn't sustain drives against the Cowboys, and Bortles simply didn't have a good game. The touchdown was a nice throw on a 34-yarder to Dede Westbrook, and the interception was a bad one into triple-coverage. Bortles has at least one interception in every game but one this season, and he's difficult to trust next week against the Texans with so many quarterback options out there.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws four interceptions in Week 5 loss.

Bortles was 33/61 for 430 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions along with four carries for 34 yards, a touchdown, and a fumble lost in the loss to the Chiefs. It just wasn't a good game for Bortles, as one interception was a pick-six—for which Chris Jones deserves credit for making a nice play on a screen pass; and another was in the red zone on a pass that appeared to come of out Bortles' hands weird and deflected off an offensive lineman's helmet and into the end zone. Bortles will look to bounce back next week against the Cowboys, but he'll remain a volatile option in fantasy lineups.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws for two touchdowns and nears 400 yards in Week 4.

Bortles was 29/38 for 388 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception along with three carries for 28 yards in the win against the Jets. The first score was to T.J. Yeldon on a short pass Yeldon basically walked in on for 31 yards, and the second score was to Donte Moncrief one a go route down the right sideline for 67 yards. Through four games, Bortles is on pace for 4,380 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions along with 72 rushing attempts for 528 yards (7.3 average). There's volatility, but Bortles is at least a streaming option in fantasy lineups. The Jaguars face the Chiefs next week.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Titans shut down Jaguars in Week 3.

After a great Week 2 performance for Blake Bortles, he couldn't get much going against the Titans. Bortles was 21/34 for 155 yards along with five carries for 27 yards in the loss. Bortles will look to bounce back against the Jets next week, but New York is coming off a mini bye after playing in the Thursday night game. Bortles is a risky fantasy option for Week 4.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles, Jaguars explode in convincing win over the Patriots.

Bortles completed 29/45 passes for 377 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception, also adding six carries for 35 yards in a 31-20 victory. It felt like New England could come back just like they did in the AFC Championship Game last season, but a 61-yard touchdown to Dede Westbrook essentially sealed the game in the fourth quarter. Bortles also connected with Donte Moncrief (four yards), Keelan Cole (24 yards), and Austin Seferian-Jenkings (four yards) in the first half, and his lone interception occurred on a drop. Overall, it was probably the best game of Bortles' career, and he should be confident heading into a matchup with the rival Titans. However, there are probably better fantasy options to consider at such a deep position.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles plays well in Jaguars' win against the Giants.

Bortles didn't put up huge numbers, but he played pretty well to help get the Jags to 1-0 to start the season. Bortles was 18/33 for 176 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and one interception along with four carries for 42 rushing yards. The touchdown was on a short pass to T.J. Yeldon, and the interception was on a throw down the left sideline that Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins made a nice toe-tapping catch on. Bortles has a tough matchup versus the Patriots in Week 2.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles has reportedly been "remarkably consistent" this offseason.

John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site says Bortles' consistency was "the biggest story" during OTAs. He says the fifth-year quarterback has looked "poised" and "confident" entering his second year under Doug Marrone's offensive system. The Jaguars have made it clear they believe Bortles can really progress with more time, and they apparently didn't entertain bringing in another potential starting quarterback during free agency or the draft. Bortles had some QB1 fantasy weeks last season, and he could turn out to be a solid option all season long if he is more consistent heading into 2018. Keep in mind, Bortles was in a quarterback competition heading into last season, so he should naturally be more confident as the team's clear starter.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles has agreed to a three-year contract extension with Jacksonville, according to multiple reports.

This is a bit of a surprise in a loaded offseason for the position, but the Jaguars must feel comfortable enough with Bortles as their starting quarterback, so they locked him up early. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the deal is worth $54 million with incentives, but it’s unclear if the team would be able to get out of it with minimal cap impact at any point. At the very least, this takes Jacksonville out of the market for Kirk Cousins, Sam Bradford, and others in free agency. However, they could still draft a quarterback in April if someone they like falls to them at the end of the first round. As for 2018, this could give Bortles confidence to put up some big numbers, especially if Allen Robinson is back. Remember, he isn’t far removed from a 35-touchdown season.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Jaguars plan to have Blake Bortles as their 2018 starter.

The team picked up Bortles' fifth-year player option last year, but the 2018 salary was only guaranteed for injury. It sounds like the team is set to keep Bortles, so they might explore trying to sign him to a longer deal that will give him less than the $16 million/year he's scheduled to make next season. After Bortles played well down the stretch and helped lead his team to an AFC Championship appearance, this isn't surprising. However, it's a good bet that Jacksonville will be targeting a quarterback to develop in this year's draft—likely one of the top 5-6 if any of them are there at pick 29.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles underwent right wrist surgery last week, according to ESPN.

Bortles popped up on the injury report with the wrist injury at times this season, but he didn't miss any action because of the issue. Adam Schefter says the issue started in December 2016 but that the Jaguars opted to not have Bortles get the surgery. Now that he's had the surgery, hopefully it means Bortles is better because of it moving forward. Bortles should be fine for offseason training, and he'll certainly be ready for training camp if not.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles, Jags fall short in AFC Championship.

Bortles was 23/36 for 293 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions in the 24-20 loss. Jacksonville was up 20-10 in the fourth quarter, but Tom Brady did his thing from there with two touchdowns to Danny Amendola. The final offensive play for the Jaguars was a fourth down pass to Dede Westbrook that was on the money, but cornerback Stephon Gilmore made an exceptional play to break it up. Overall, it was a quality performance by Bortles, and there’s a good chance he’s the team’s starter again in 2018. However, they will obviously look at all options at the position, and the former third-overall pick wouldn’t be a recommended fantasy option on what should again be a low-volume passing attack.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles, Jaguars advance to AFC Championship Game with 45-42 win over the Steelers.

Bortles was 14/26 for 214 yards, one touchdown, and no turnovers. Jacksonville was able to hold onto a 28-7 lead, as Bortles made timely throws and plays with his legs (35 yards on five attempts). They will now face New England next week, but Bortles will face a much stiffer defensive test against Bill Belichick. If he takes care of the football, the Jags certainly have a chance.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles uses his legs in first career playoff win.

Bortles was 12/23 for 87 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. He did most of his damage on the ground with 10 carries for a career-high 88 yards in the 10-3 win over the Bills. Bortles didn't get off to a hot start through the air with inaccurate throws on short patterns, but he was the team's main source of offense on the ground. He will look to pull off a road playoff win next weekend in Pittsburgh.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles struggles against the Titans.

Bortles had two more turnovers in the Week 17 matchup, going 15/34 for 158 yards and two interceptions along with one carry for nine yards. Heading into the postseason, Bortles appears to be cold, but he'll hope to turn it on quickly as the Jags attempt a playoff run. Bortles' regular season ends with 3,687 passing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, 13 interceptions, a 60.2% completion percentage, 57 carries, 322 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws three interception in Jaguars' loss.

Bortles was on a roll as of late, but he a bit struggled in the Christmas Eve matchup with the 49ers. Bortles was 32/50 for 382 yards, two interceptions, and three interceptions, while also adding four carries for 31 yards on the ground. Bortles did throw his first pick-six of the season, and hopefully he doesn't let it get in his head moving forward. Despite the subpar performance, Bortles ended up with a great fantasy day and paid off for fantasy owners that trusted him in their lineups for the first week of fantasy championships.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles stays hot in Jaguars' win.

Bortles kept it going from his great Week 14 win over Seattle, playing an excellent game against the Texans to help Jacksonville clinch its first playoff berth since 2007. Bortles was 21/29 for 326 yards and three touchdowns in the win. All three touchdowns came deep in Texans territory (one to Keelan Cole and two to Jaydon Mickens), but he also had a couple of big plays of 73 yards and 41 yards in the victory. Over the last four games, Bortles is averaging an elite 22.3 fantasy points per game. There is some risk in trusting Bortles in fantasy lineups, but he's worth QB1 consideration against the 49ers in Week 16.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles, Jaguars improve to 9-4 with big win over the Seahawks.

Bortles was 18/27 for 268 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in what was probably his best game of the year. Both scores came in the third quarter, first to Dede Westbrook from 18 yards out, then to Keelan Cole on a 75-yard dime that he didn't have to break stride for. If Bortles can keep up his competent play down the stretch and into the postseason, the Jags have all the ingredients for a Super Bowl run. Fantasy owners should probably roll with another option with a championship berth potentially on the line in Week 15, but Bortles could be a nice play against Houston.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles goes over 300 yards in Week 13.

This win against the Colts was Bortles' second 300-yard passing performance of the season, and the first also came against the Colts in Week 7. Bortles was 26/35 for 309 yards and two touchdowns while also adding three carries for 27 yards. He's playing well right now, but it's a major risk to play Bortles in the fantasy playoffs next week when he takes on Seattle.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles takes matters into his own hands, but Jags fall to Cardinals on late field goal.

Bortles was 19/33 for 160 yards and one interception, but he did most of his damage as a runner with six carries for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Jacksonville is now tied with Tennessee for first-place in the AFC South, and they'll look to get back on track next week against Indianapolis. Bortles won't be a recommended fantasy option despite the big game on Sunday.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws one touchdown as Jags improve to 7-3.

Bortles was 17/30 for 154 yards and one touchdown, and he also fumbled twice, losing one. The score was to a basically wide-open Marcedes Lewis in the end zone. While he isn't lighting the world on fire, Bortles is playing well enough that the Jaguars have been able to get to four games above .500 while riding their elite defense. Bortles has a good matchup against a Cardinals team that's struggled mightily at times this season, but he's still not a recommended QB1 option.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws two interception but Jaguars improve to 6-3.

The Chargers shut down Leonard Fournette and the running back, so the Jaguars threw the ball a ton in the win. Bortles was 28/51 for 273 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while also adding five carries for 34 yards on the ground. He was playing a very good game until late, when he threw two interceptions to safety Tre Boston—but the Jaguars still pulled out a win. Bortles faces the Browns in Week 11, but he's a risky streaming option.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles plays very well in Jaguars' win.

Bortles threw the ball 38 times against the Bengals, but they also ran the ball 40 times in their 23-7 win. Bortles was 24/38 for 259 yards and a touchdown while adding five carries for 20 yards rushing. The touchdown pass was on a slant route to Marqise Lee that capped a 96-yard drive by the Jags. Bortles will look to keep it going next week against the Chargers, but he's not a reliable fantasy option.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles plays well in Jaguars' win over Indy.

Without star rookie running back Leonard Fournette, the Jaguars still picked up a convincing shutout win against the Colts. Bortles was 18/26 for 330 yards and a touchdown, but he did lose a fumble in the game. Overall, this was close to the London game against Baltimore in terms of the best game so far for Bortles this season. The touchdown came on a nice touch throw on a fade route to Marcedes Lewis by the goal line, and the Jaguars were able to also pick up some chunk plays through the air all day. Fantasy owners that took the risk and played Bortles in a good matchup are probably happy with the performance. The Jaguars have a bye next week and should get Fournette back for Week 9 against the Bengals.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws 35 times in Week 6.

The Jaguars threw more than they would have liked against the Rams, as they were down for most of the game. Bortles was 23/35 for 241 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while he was also sacked five times and fumbled twice (both were recovered by Jacksonville) in the Jaguars' loss. Bortles' touchdown was on a screen pass to Chris Ivory, and the interception was on a pass that was deflected and off Marcedes Lewis into Rams defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman's hands. The Jaguars face the Colts in Week 7.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws only 14 passes as the Jags upset the Steelers.

The Jaguars continue to ride their defense and limit Bortles' pass attempts to avoids mistakes. Bortles was 8/14 for 95 yards and an interception against Pittsburgh. He's not getting nearly enough volume to be a reliable fantasy option.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles struggles as Jaguars lose to Jets in overtime.

Bortles was 15/35 for 140 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also rushed four times for 38 yards. The poor performance follows a four-touchdown game against Baltimore last Sunday, proving that even in the best of matchups, fantasy owners shouldn't stream Bortles, especially with Allen Robinson not on the field. Bortles is completing a career-low 54.5% of his passes this year. He gets the Steelers next.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Jaguars, Blake Bortles blowout the Ravens in London.

The Jags have experience playing in London, and it might've showed in the game. Bortles lit up the Ravens, going 20/31 for 244 yards and four touchdowns while adding three carries for 18 yards. Against a tough defense, Bortles looked comfortable and threw the ball accurately, but it's unlikely many people saw this coming. If you had Bortles in your lineup, you have some guts and deserve all the points he put up. The Jaguars play the Jets in Week 4.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles was 20/34 for 223 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Sunday's 37-16 loss to Tennessee.

Bortles also rushed four times for 29 yards. Outside of a first-quarter field goal, the Jags couldn't do anything offensively until the game was out of hand in the fourth quarter. It's clearly going to be a struggle without Allen Robinson for the rest of the year, and Bortles gets a tough test with Baltimore next Sunday in London. He's obviously not a fantasy option.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles avoids mistakes as Jaguars dominate in Week 1 against the Texans.

Bortles did exactly as the coaches would want from him, going 11/21 for 125 yards and a touchdown as the team rode 39 carries and a strong defense to a Week 1 victory. The TD was a one-yarded to fullback Tommy Bohanon. The bad news is Bortles lost Allen Robinson to a knee injury, and it looks like he is going to miss the season. Bortles likely won't be a fantasy option this year without Robinson and without a lot of passing volume.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Doug Marrone names Blake Bortles the Jaguars starting quarterback.

Bortles will be under center on September 10 for the season opener against the Texans. Bortles played well in Thursday's preseason game against the Panthers after starting the second half, and the Jags are going with the third overall pick in the 2014 draft over veteran Chad Henne. If Bortles can somehow find the groove he had in 2015 when he threw for over 4,400 yards and 35 touchdowns, this would be fine for Allen Robinson and the other skill position players for the Jaguars, but it could prove to be frustrating if Bortles plays poorly. He was dealing with two shoulder injuries last season, though, and perhaps he'll turn it on in the regular season and play great. In a ball control offense, Bortles probably isn't worth a selection in the late rounds of fantasy drafts.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles was 12/16 for 125 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in relief of Chad Henne on Thursday night.

Bortles had almost the entire second half to try to regain his starting job heading into the regular season, and he performed fairly well. The interception was a throw into tight coverage that the defender made a good play on, and the touchdown was a goal line fade to a wide-open Shane Wynn that would have tied the game at 24 following the extra point, but the Jags went for two because it's the preseason; Bortles threw an interception on a jump ball for the conversion try. Chas Henne failed to impress outside of a couple nice throws, so Bortles could end up as the starter for Week 1 after he looked more comfortable, stepped up in the pocket, and displayed improved accuracy. The competition could very well go into the fourth pore season game.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said there is a competition for the starting quarterback job.

Blake Bortles played poorly in Thursday night's preseason game, and—whether it was planned or not—was replaced by Chad Henne with the first-team offense, and the veteran got his chance with the starting offensive line and receivers well into the third quarter. Henne clearly outplayed Bortles, delivering strikes for dropped touchdowns in his first drive, displaying a much quicker release and better accuracy than the starter. Marrone knows that he needs quality quarterback play if the Jags are going anywhere in 2017, and he's not getting it from Bortles right now. This newly-open battle could go into the fourth week of the preseason.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles might not be locked in as the starting quarterback for the Jaguars.

In tonight's second preseason game, Bortles was taken out of the game in the second quarter as Chad Henne got snaps with the first team. Before he left, Bortles was 8/13 for 65 yards, but he missed a wide-open Allen Robinson on a deep ball. When he entered the game, Henne threw the ball noticeably better than Bortles. Super Bowl winning head coach Jon Gruden, who was calling the game on ESPN, indicated he believes Henne should get the opportunity to start for the Jaguars, while giving Bortles a chance to take a step back and get his mechanics in order.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles goes 3/5 for 16 yards in preseason opener.

New England didn't play their first-team unit in the game. Bortles worked on improving his throwing motion this offseason, but its still noticeably long. He'll face Tampa Bay in Week 2 of the preseason.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles threw five interceptions in practice yesterday.

Yes, it was only an early training camp practice, but head coach Doug Marrone said he's "concerned," and it's hard not to blame him. Bortles has struggled with turnovers since he entered the league—even during his 2015 breakout season he threw 18 interceptions. Jaguars.com senior writer John Oehser says Bortles "didn't appear to make good decisions" in the practice. The former third overall pick in the draft is facing a make-or-break season in Jacksonville. It's clear the Jaguars are going to run the ball with fourth overall pick Leonard Fournette and company to try to take pressure of their quarterback.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Jaguars executive VP Tom Coughlin says Blake Bortles has "pretty much" corrected his throwing mechanics.

Bortles throwing motion became a big concern during his subpar 2016, with the motion being too long. A prolonged throwing motion gives defenders more time to break on the ball, and it can also lead to inconsistent accuracy (which Bortles struggled with last season). Coughlin said his quarterback turned the ball over too much last season, so that's been another area of focus for Bortles this offseason. Remember, Bortles was dealing with injuries to both shoulders last season, so he should be a lot healthier in 2017.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone says Blake Bortles has improved.

Marrone said there is "no doubt" Bortles improved and they are still working on a few things, but "building into OTAs." Specifically, Marrone is talking about Bortles throwing motion. Bortles has been working to make his throwing motion quicker and more compact this offseason. Recovered from both his shoulder injuries from last season along with hopeful improvements to his throwing mechanics, Bortles will try to bounce back after he took a step back last season.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Jaguars have picked up quarterback Blake Bortles' fifth-year option.

Bortles' contract now runs through next season. He battled injuries to both shoulders last season, which must have hindered his effectiveness, so they'll hope Bortles can bounce back this season. The addition of Leonard Fournette with the fourth overall pick should take some pressure off Bortles, as they're very likely to be a team that runs the ball a lot.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

The Jags are not sure if they will pick up Blake Bottles fifth-year option.

It seems unlikely at this point. The Jaguars will probably want to make sure Bortles improves this season before guaranteeing him money for 2018. If Bortles makes big strides, the Jags should be more than happy to give him a solid contract after next season. Jacksonville cannot be counted out for drafting Deshaun Watson if he's there at number four overall.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles is working with Tom House and Adam Dedeaux to improve his throwing motion.

Bortles is going to the right people, as House and Dedeux have both worked with great NFL quarterbacks, including Tom Brady. Bortles said the first week of training "wasn't pretty," which shows how bad his mechanics became last season. He's working on quickening his release, which will make him more consistent with his accuracy and will also help him get rid of the ball quicker (obviously). Bortles will look to get back to his 2015 ways. Also keep in mind Bortles had injuries to both shoulders last season. The Jags need him to step up in 2017.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

At the NFL Combine, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone says that Blake Bortles is the Jaguars quarterback.

He was asked about a possible competition, but Marrone made it clear that Bortles will be the quarterback in 2017. The Jaguars have the fourth overall pick, and it's conceivable that they could fall in love with a quarterback at the top of the draft, but it seems very unlikely. Bortles battled injuries to both shoulders last season. If he doesn't improve next season, the Jaguars will be in the market for a quarterback.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Jaguars GM David Caldwell says the Jaguars can win a Super Bowl with Blake Bortles.

In an interview at the Senior Bowl, Caldwell said "I've said this time and time again: 'I think we can win a lot of games with Blake. I think we can win a Super Bowl with Blake." Caldwell went on to say that he has good traits like intelligence, competitiveness, and work-ethic. Bortles struggles in 2016 can at least partly be attributed to his two shoulder separations. It's highly unlikely the Jaguars pick a quarterback early in the draft.

Blake Bortles was dealing with two shoulder separations this season.

Bortles admitted the news after the season finale, and it could explain why his mechanics--and game--took a big step back after a breakout 2015. The former third overall pick will almost certainly be the Jaguars' starting quarterback in 2017, but it will probably be a make-or-break year for him in Jacksonville.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles has second straight good game to end his season.

Bortles was 25/39 for 301 yards and one touchdown against the Colts. He ends his disappointing season with 3,905 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. It will be interesting to see who coaches the Jaguars next season and to see if they can get improvement from Bortles.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Bortles makes history in a good way.

Blake Bortles made NFL history against the Tennessee Titans, becoming the first player in NFL history to throw for 300 yards and catch a TD pass in the same game. Bortles' final line was 26-38 for 325 yards with 1 TD throwing, 1 TD receiving, 0 INTs, and 3 rushes for 7 yards. The touchdown reception was in fourth quarter when the Jags called a trick play out of a timeout. Bortles took a shotgun snap, handed it to Marquise Lee, and Lee threw a 20-yard TD pass to Bortles. The Jaguars opened up the offense under interim coach Doug Marone, which benefited Bortles to lead his team to the Jaguars' first home stadium win in over one year. It was also the most points scored by the Jaguars this season. Bortles isn't a good fantasy option in Week 17.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles bad in 21-20 loss to the Texans.

Bortles was 12/28 for 92 yards and an interception. He also rushed twice for negative-five yards, but was able to score a one-yard touchdown. The Jaguars are now 2-12 and have a good chance at Deshaun Watson or another quarterback in the draft this spring. They should take Watson if he's there and end the Bortles era, but that seems unlikely.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles doesn't throw any interceptions, but Jaguars lose to Minnesota and drop to 2-11.

Bortles was 23/37 for 257 yards and a touchdown against the Vikings. Bortles cannot be trusted in fantasy lineups after his regression from last season.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws third pick-six in four games as Jaguars lose 20-10 to Broncos.

Bortles was 19/42 for 181 yards and two interceptions, including a 51-yard interception returned for a touchdown by Bradley Roby. He also rushed twice for 29 yards and a touchdown. Amazingly, Bortles now has more career pick-sixes (11) than he does wins (10). The Jaguars play the Vikings in Week 14. Run as far away from Bortles as you can.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles was 13/26 for 126 yards and two touchdowns, and led the Jaguars in rushing with eight carries for 81 yards in Jacksonville's 28-21 loss to the Bills.

Chris Ivory (hamstring) left the game, so Bortles ended up being the most effective ball carrier for Jacksonville. The Jags are now 2-9, but at least Bortles didn't throw a pick-six for the third straight game. He is miles off the fantasy radar for Week 13 versus the Broncos.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Blake Bortles throws another pick-six in Jaguars seven-point loss.

Bortles was 22/35 for 202 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He really shouldn’t be in your fantasy lineup at this point, unless you want to take a chance he has a huge game. He’s just too inconsistent and has tough matchups coming up. Keep Bortles out of your lineup against the Bills in Week 12.

Blake Bortles | Broncos QB

Bortles throws pick-six; Jaguars drop to 2-7.

Bortles started the game with the INT, but settled down after that. His final stat line was 32/49 for 265 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Bortles has obviously regressed in both real life and fantasy. He could have some big games, but is hard to trust in your lineup.
