Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek has retired from the NFL.

Celek dealt with a back injury during the 2019 season, so he unfortunately was unable to be a big contributor as the 49ers made a run to Super Bowl LIV; but the 31-year-old did well to be able to play his entire eight-year career with one franchise, especially as an undrafted player in 2012. The tight end's career ends with 82 receptions for 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns. We wish him the best of luck moving forward. Interestingly, his brother and fellow former NFL tight end Brent Celek just took a job as a personnel man with the Eagles, so perhaps the front office could be a direction Garrett also looks toward.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

The 49ers placed Garrett Celek (back) on injured reserve.

Celek has been trying to return to form following offseason back surgery all season, but the Niners have decided to place him on injured reserve after he was activated from the PUP list last month. Hopefully the veteran tight end can get to 100% for next season.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

The 49ers activated Garrett Celek from the PUP list.

Celek has been out on the PUP all season after offseason back surgery, but he returns at a great time with George Kittle (knee/ankle) likely out tonight against the Seahawks. Celek is in the mix as a fantasy replacement for Kittle, but Ross Dwelley might ultimately be a better option given that Celek is playing in his first game of the year.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek is starting training camp on the PUP list.

This was expected after Celek had back surgery, but he should be taken off the PUP list sometime during camp. Celek is a solid real-life contributor for the Niners as a strong run-blocker and a capable receiver, but he's not on the fantasy radar behind All-Pro starting tight end George Kittle.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek could miss the start of training camp after undergoing back surgery.

Celek is also in the concussion protocol, so he won't be able to clear it until camp starts. Now 31, Celek probably isn't guaranteed a roster spot behind George Kittle after catching just five passes in 15 games a season ago. The veteran isn't currently on the fantasy radar, but hopefully he gets healthy enough to contribute.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek (concussion) has been ruled out for the rest of today's game.

Celek was first checked for a concussion in the first half. He did not have any receptions before leaving against the Bears. Hopefully he's feeling OK soon.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek scores in win over the Seahawks.

Celek caught two passes for 61 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown in the first half. The 49ers consistently got the tight ends open against Seattle, and Celek was fortunate to find himself in open space for his catch-and-run to the end zone. The veteran can stay on the waiver wire in fantasy leagues.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek catches one pass in Week 3.

Celek gained seven yards on his lone reception. George Kittle is the tight end to own for the Niners, as Celek is more of a real-life asset than a fantasy contributor at the moment.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek scores in Week 2 win over Detroit.

Celek caught an 11-yard score in the second half, and he also had another 11-yard reception in the game. The touchdown came in contested coverage, but Celek fought his way into the end zone for six. George Kittle remains the preferred fantasy option heading into a matchup with the Chiefs.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek catches 28-yard pass in season finale.

It was his only reception of the game in a 34-13 win. Celek finishes his sixth season with a career year, catching 21 passes for 336 yards (16.0 yards per reception) and four touchdowns in 13 starts. He probably won't be a fantasy option in 2018.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek scores in win over the Titans.

Celek caught three passes for 63 yards, including a five-yard score. He also made another 41-yard reception. The younger brother of Brent Celek has at least 63 yards and a score in each of the past two weeks, as Jimmy Garoppolo likes throwing to tight ends from his time with the Patriots. He's worth a look in the fantasy championship, but Celek has a tough draw with Jacksvonille's elite defense on Christmas Eve.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek scores against the Texans.

Celek got wide open down the middle of the field for a 61-yard gain before later adding a six-yard touchdown in the flat. Overall, Celek had two receptions on four targets for 67 yards and a touchdown. He's not a recommended fantasy option, but it's good to see him making a big impact for his team.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek catches two passes against Chicago.

Celek gained 30 yards on his two receptions in the Week 13 victory. He's not a recommended fantasy option, but Celek is a solid contributor for the Niners.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek catches both Week 12 targets.

Celek gained seven yards on his two receptions. He doesn't get enough looks in the passing game to be a reliable fantasy option.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek scores 47-yard touchdown in win over the Giants.

Celek caught four passes for 67 yards and the touchdown, and New York has now amazingly allowed a score to a tight end in 10-straight games. Celek can go back to the waiver wire for those who capitalized on the matchup in Week 10.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Celek catches one pass in Week 8 loss.

It went for 24 yards on the opening drive of the game. Celek isn't a fantasy option with just 61 yards this season.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek catches one pass in Week 6.

He gained 13 yards on his lone reception in the game. He's not a recommended fantasy option right now, despite his real-life contributions to the 49ers.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek catches one-yard TD in 49ers' Week 3 loss.

Celek caught a touchdown by the goal line while also drawing another target by the goal line that arguably should've been defensive pass interference. The veteran tight end probably won't deliver any consistent fantasy value in 2017.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek catches 24-yard pass in opening preseason game.

He ran a corner route and made a nice catch on a pass from Matt Barkley. Celek is probably on the roster bubble.

Garrett Celek caught four passes for 39 yards against the Rams.

He's not a terrible option at tight end if you are really struggling there as the Niners main tight end at the moment.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek caught two passes for 22 yards and a touchdown against the Falcons.

With Blake Bell (one catch for 45 yards) injured and potentially done for the season with only two weeks to go, Celek could potentially be a backend TE1 as the main tight end in Chip Kelly's offense. He gets the Rams next, but does carry some risk.

Garrett Celek | Retired TE

Garrett Celek catches touchdown against the Dolphins.

Celek had two catches for 19 yards and the touchdown. Celek got wide open on a play-action fake for a touchdown inside the five-yard line. He also lost a fumble in the game, which was costly in the 31-24 loss. Celek isn't a fantasy option and should stay on the waiver wire.
