The Raiders signed Jalen Richard to a new contract, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Richard was set to become a free agent this offseason, but the Raiders are securing the versatile receiving back as they make the move from Oakland to Las Vegas. Josh Jacobs might ultimately take more work on third downs in his second NFL season, but Richard should remain a solid contributor in Jon Gruden's offense.
Jalen Richard (ankle) has returned for the Raiders.
It looked like Richard might have a hard time getting back into today's game, but it's good to see he's returned. Richard will mix in with DeAndre Washington in Oakland's backfield.
Jalen Richard (ankle) is officially questionable to return for the Raiders.
Richard appeared to injure his ankle pretty badly, as he was limping considerably on the sideline. We'll update you when more information becomes available on Richard's status, but his absence will likely lead to more work for DeAndre Washington.
The Raiders gave Jalen Richard a second-round tender, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
It's unlikely a team is willing to sign Richard as a restricted free agent and give the Raiders back a second-round draft pick, so expect him to remain in Oakland for 2019. Richard caught 68 passes for 607 yards in his first season in Jon Gruden's offense, as the head coach was very happy with his play as a receiving back throughout last year. The Raiders might get a workhorse back that takes some of Richard's snaps, but for now the 25-year-old looks like he could be a PPR FLEX option this season.
Jalen Richard handles five touches in Week 17 loss.
Richard rushed three times for one yard and caught two passes for 17 yards. Oakland's receiving back ends the season with a career-best 68 receptions and 607 yards through the air, also adding 55 carries for 259 yards (4.7 YPC) and one touchdown. Richard is an unrestricted free agent.
Jalen Richard scores against the Broncos in Week 16.
Richard carried four times for 11 yards and a touchdown along with four receptions for 40 yards in the Raiders' Christmas Eve victory. The touchdown came on a carry by the goal line that Richard was able to power into the end zone. This was the first touchdown of the season for Richard, and it'll probably be one he'll remember in the Raiders' last game at the Coliseum.
Jalen Richard gets nine touches against the Bengals.
Richard had four carries for nine yards and five receptions for 67 yards along with a fumble lost in the Raiders' Week 15 loss. Richard must do a better job of holding onto the ball after another lost fumble, but he's been a solid receiver for Derek Carr this season. Richard isn't a recommended fantasy option entering fantasy finals against a tough Denver defense that limited him to three yards in Week 2.
Jalen Richard gets nine touches in Week 14.
Richard carried eight times for 24 yards along with one reception for five yards against the Steelers. Next week against the Bengals is a great matchup for Richard, so he's a stronger PPR FLEX option for the second week of the fantasy playoffs.
Jalen Richard goes over 125 total yards in Week 13.
Richard carried six times for 95 yards and caught three passes for 31 yards against the Chiefs. He also lost a fumble, as did the other two running backs for Oakland. Richard picked up chunk yardage throughout the game, and his 95 rushing yards were a career-high. This could earn Richard more carries in the final four games of the season, but he's difficult to trust in standard-sized leagues next week against the Steelers.
Jalen Richard held to 16 yards in loss to the Ravens.
Richard rushed once for one yard and caught two passes (on four targets) for 15 yards. It was a quiet game for the receiving back in what should have been a positive spot against Baltimore's stout front, but the Raiders had some success early on with Doug Martin, and Derek Carr completed just 16/34 passes. The shootout potential next week against Kansas City should allow Richard to bounce back.
Jalen Richard gets 14 touches in Week 11.
Richard carried 11 times for 61 yards and added three receptions for 32 yards against the Cardinals. Richard’s 61 yards led the team in what was basically a perfectly-even split backfield. Doug Martin had ten carries (52 yards) and DeAndre Washington had 12 carries (39 yards). It’s difficult to trust any of them next week against the Ravens, though Richard is probably the best bet in PPR leagues.
Jalen Richard handles eight touches in loss to the Chargers.
Richard rushed three times for seven yards and caught five-of-six targets for 52 yards. Oakland's receiving back should remain a PPR asset down the stretch, but he's just a low-upside FLEX option. The Raiders will look to pickup their second win of the season next week in Arizona.
Jalen Richard handles six touches in Week 9 loss.
Richard caught four passes for 45 yards, also adding two carries for four yards. The receiving back will be worth considering in as a FLEX option in PPR formats when the Raiders take on the Chargers in Week 10, but he doesn't carry a ton of upside on an underachieving offense.
Jalen Richard handles ten touches in Week 8 loss.
Richard rushed twice for 14 yards, also adding eight receptions (on eight targets) for 50 yards. Oakland's receiving back should be a very good PPR asset down the stretch, including this Thursday night against the 49ers. Consider Richard a decent FLEX in standard leagues with a significant boost in PPR formats.
Jalen Richard leads Raiders in Week 6 receiving.
Richard carried two times for three yards and added seven receptions (on eight targets) for 48 yards against the Seahawks. Because Seattle got so much pressure on Derek Carr, Richard was a frequent target on underneath passes. Richard will be in the PPR FLEX conversation after Oakland's Week 7 bye.
Jalen Richard handles seven touches in Week 5 loss.
Richard rushed once for four yards and caught six passes for 53 yards in the 26-10 defeat. Oakland's receiving back benefitted from some late underneath targets, but that's not something fantasy owners should rely on. Richard is only worth considering as a PPR FLEX option against Seattle next Sunday.
Jalen Richard handles four touches in Week 4 win.
Richard rushed once for negative-two yards and caught three passes for 38 yards in a 45-42 victory. Oakland's receiving back is on pace for 72 receptions for 608 yards through four games, and he is worth considering as a FLEX option in PPR leagues heading into a potential Week 5 shootout with the Chargers.
Jalen Richard catches six passes against the Dolphins.
Richard was targeted seven times, gaining 59 yards ons his six receptions. Richard's targets, receptions, and yards were all second on the game. DeAndre Washington was notably inactive despite no longer being listed on the injury report, and Richard remains locked in as the clear lead receiving back for the Raiders. Richard is in FLEX conversation for PPR leagues in Week 4.
Jalen Richard gets two carries in Week 2.
Richard gained three yards on his two attempts, and he surprisingly wasn’t involved in the passing game. Richard remains a FLEX option for deeper PPR leagues, but he carries obvious downside after a zero-catch outing.
Jon Gruden says he thinks Jalen Richard can be "great" as a receiving back.
Gruden said that sometimes the running back against the linebacker is often the best matchup, and he mentioned how the Patriots do such a good job of utilizing their running backs as receivers. He then said he thinks Richard can be great and has shown major glimpses in that area, adding that he got open and could've had a 60-yard gain in Monday's loss (Richard dropped the pass). Clearly, Richard is going to have a sizable role as a receiver for Oakland this season, and he should probably be owned in all PPR leagues. He's worth a look in standard leagues, too.
Jalen Richard gets 14 touches in Week 1 loss.
Richard's 14 touches led Oakland's backfield, but a lot of it was late in the game in passing situations where he was the target of dump-offs. The third-year back had five carries for 24 rushing yards along with nine receptions for 55 receiving yards. Ideally for the Raiders, Richard won't be as heavily involved as a receiver in Week 2. He's not a recommended option in fantasy lineups.
Jalen Richard catches one pass in Week 17.
Richard gained six yards on his lone reception and received no carries against the Chargers. The second-year back outperformed his fellow teammate DeAndre Washington this year, carrying 56 times for 275 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown along with 27 receptions for 256 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He should have a solid role with the team next season, but this backfield is very much up in the air heading into the offseason.
Jalen Richard gets six touches in Week 16.
Richard ran well with his opportunities against the Eagles, carrying four times for 42 yards while adding two receptions for 24 yards. The second-year back had a long run of 34 yards and a long reception of 23 yards where he lowered his shoulder against Eagles linebacker Nigel Bradham, but he lost a fumble right after. Richard isn't a recommended fantasy option to end the season in Week 17 against the Chargers.
Jalen Richard catches two passes in Week 15.
Richard gained 21 yards on his two receptions and did not receive any carries in the loss. The second-year back isn’t receiving enough touches to be trusted in fantasy lineups.
Jalen Richard gets two touches in Week 13.
Richard had a four-yard carry and a five-yard reception versus the Giants. He's a contributor to the Raiders, but Richard doesn't get enough touches to have much fantasy value.
Jalen Richard scores in Week 12.
Richard had two carries for 17 yards and added two receptions (on two targets) for 13 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Broncos. The score came on an in-breaking route near the goal line where Richard made a nice catch in some traffic. The second-year back is more of a dynasty league option right now.
Jalen Richard handles six touches in Week 11 loss.
Richard rushed four times for 19 yards and caught two passes for nine yards. The second-year back isn't a fantasy option outside of deeper leagues.
Jalen Richard gets five carries in Week 9.
Richard gained 14 yards on his five attempts, as both he and teammate DeAndre Washington were behind Marshawn Lynch after Lynch’s return from a one-game suspension. Richard is just a dynasty league option for now.
Jalen Richard gets ten touches in Raiders' loss.
With no Marshawn Lynch, it was a running back by committee approach for Oakland, and that included a touchdown at the goal line for fullback Jamize Olawale. Richard had five carries for 21 yards and added five receptions on 35 yards. DeAndre Washington (14 touches, touchdown) received a little more work, but the playing time appeared to be split pretty evenly—and they both lost fumbles in the game. They'll both mix in with Lynch moving forward.
Jalen Richard totals 76 yards in Raiders' win.
Marshawn Lynch shoved an official and was ejected in the second quarter in the Thursday night victory, so Richard worked with fellow second-year back DeAndre Washington in a split backfield that seemed to have a good rhythm. Richard had nine carries for 31 yards and four receptions (on four targets) for 45 yards. There was talk of Oakland wanting to get Richard more involved, and they did just that. He'll continue getting touches and should probably be playing ahead of Marshawn Lynch at this point, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Raiders just cut ties with Lynch.
Jalen Richard gets five touches in Week 6.
Richard had two carries for -1 yard and three receptions for 27 yards. If the season keeps going south, he and fellow second-year back DeAndre Washington could be in line for more touches.
Jalen Richard rushed nine times for 37 yards in Sunday's loss to Baltimore.
Richard was the clear backup to Marshawn Lynch, as DeAndre Washington didn't even receive a touch. If Lynch keeps struggling, the dynamic second-year back could see more work. He's worth monitoring heading into a Week 6 matchup with the Chargers.
Jalen Richard rushed twice for seven yards in Sunday's loss.
He also caught a 20-yard pass. Richard got the second-most carries on the team behind an ineffective Marshawn Lynch. The second-year back might get more work if Lynch continues to struggle, but he's not worth keeping on the bench in standard leagues at the moment.
Jalen Richard sees three touches in Week 3 loss.
He rushed twice for four yards and caught a four-yard pass. The Raiders were thoroughly dominated by Washington, and Richard didn't have a chance to get going behind Marshawn Lynch. Cordarrelle Patterson also lined up in the backfield and received a couple carries, so Richard doesn't need to be owned in fantasy leagues.
Jalen Richard breaks long touchdown in Week 2.
The second-year back had six carries for 58 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown on a toss from the shotgun as he showed his one-cut ability and speed. Richard also had two receptions for 51 yards in the game, so it was quite the day for him. He'll probably have some days like this throughout the season, but Richard is hard to trust in your fantasy lineup as long as Marshawn Lynch is there.
Jalen Richard gets six touches in Week 1.
Richard had five carries for 22 yards and one reception for six yards but did also fumble (it was recovered by Oakland). He and DeAndre Washington will continue working together as change of pace backs, but they probably won't make a big fantasy impact as long as Marshawn Lynch is healthy.
Jalen Richard carries five times for seven yards in Week 1 of the preseason.
Richard couldn't find much room to run versus the Cardinals. It's unclear who the primary backup is behind Marshawn Lynch, and they'd both probably split the work evenly in the event of a Lynch injury.
Jalen Richard gets five touches versus the Texans.
Richard had three carries for three yards and two receptions for eight yards. Richard was a big surprise as an undrafted rookie out of Southern Miss. He'll be back with Oakland next season as a change of pace with Dwayne Washington behind Latavius Murray.
Jalen Richard catches touchdown in Raiders' win.
Richard had six carries for 66 yards and three catches for 13 yards and a touchdown against the Colts. The touchdown came on a quick smoke-type route and Richard got in the endzone fairly easily. He also had room to run, gashing the Colts for 11.0 yards per carry. Richard isn't a reliable fantasy option behind Latavius Murray, but he could have some games like this.
Jalen Richard gets 10 touches against the Chargers.
Richard had six carries for 36 yards and four catches for 13 yards. He was second on the team with five targets in the game. Richard isn't a reliable fantasy option behind Latavius Murray.
Jalen Richard rushed six times for 29 yards in Thursday night's loss.
Richard was targeted four times but didn't catch any of them. With Latavius Murray healthy and playing great, the undrafted rookie is just a change-of-pace option for Oakland. He doesn't need to be owned in fantasy leagues.
Jalen Richard rushed seven times for 23 yards in Sunday's victory.
The rookie was not targeted in the passing game, but remains the clear backup to Latavius Murray (DeAndre Washington was a healthy scratch). Richard is just a weak handcuff.
Richard catches touchdown in Raiders' W.
He had three carries for two yards and three catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. On the touchdown, Richard beat the linebacker on an option route and Derek Carr hit him in the endzone for six. Richard is a productive player for the Raiders, but shouldn't be in your fantasy lineup.
