Nate Sudfeld | 49ers QB

The 49ers signed Nate Sudfeld.

After spending the past four seasons with the Eagles (and being a member of the Super Bowl LII championship team), Sudfeld is moving across the country to San Francisco. It's a good spot landing with Kyle Shanahan, and the 27-year-old will look to continue developing as someone that's held in high regard  around the league as a backup option. Perhaps this gives a hint that Jimmy Garoppolo could be on the move despite strong denials from Niners brass, but we'll see.

Nate Sudfeld | 49ers QB

The Eagles agreed to sign Nate Sudfeld to a one-year deal.

While veteran Josh McCown kept the second-string job behind starter Carson Wentz last season, Philadelphia is high on Sudfeld as a backup option. We'll see what happens with McCown, but Sudfeld is the favorite to backup Wentz in 2020.

Nate Sudfeld | 49ers QB

Nate Sudfeld is expected to miss six weeks after wrist surgery, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This is probably a good result after Sudfeld broke his wrist in last night's preseason game. The Eagles can be confident in Cody Kessler while Sudfeld recovers, and then they'll make a decision on the backup quarterback behind Carson Wentz when Sudfeld is back to 100%.

Nate Sudfeld | 49ers QB

Nate Sudfeld broke his wrist in Thursday night’s loss to the Titans.

It looked like a serious injury when Philly’s backup quarterback left the game in an air cast, and head coach Doug Pederson said Sudfeld will have surgery tomorrow. Fortunately, the Eagles have a very good option in Cody Kessler to be the new No. 2 quarterback, and the team currently has no plans to add more competition.

Nate Sudfeld | 49ers QB

Nate Sudfeld throws first career touchdown in Week 17.

Sudfeld entered the game for Nick Foles, who left with a rib injury, and he a threw a 22-yard touchdown to Nelson Agholor on a drag route. It was Sudfeld's first NFL touchdown, but Agholor accidentally gave the ball to a kid Eagles fan in the stands; Sudfeld and Agholor nicely asked if the kid would give the ball back while seemingly promising to give him a different ball or other goodies, and the fan did not cause any issues and gave Sudfeld his first touchdown ball in a cool and funny moment. Foles' rib injury isn't serious, so Sudfeld will back him up for Sunday's Wild Card game against the Bears.

Nate Sudfeld | 49ers QB

Nate Sudfeld gets extended Week 17 action.

The Eagles rested their starters for much of the game against the Cowboys, and Sudfeld went 19/23 for 134 yards, adding a 22-yard carry on a scramble. Some will be calling for him to start over Nick Foles after playing pretty well, but that's not going to happen. Sudfeld will backup Foles in the playoffs.
