Saquon Barkley goes off in Week 16.
Barkley carried 22 times for 189 yards and a touchdown along with four receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' overtime victory against the Redskins. The star running back has started to look more like himself in the past two weeks, and his monstrous performances puts him just 89 yards away from 1,000 rushing yards on the season despite missing three games with a high-ankle sprain and having it linger a bit in his return. Barkley's 279 scrimmage yards in the Week 16 victory were a career-high and a Giants franchise record. Barkley will have a tough task hitting 1,000 rushing yards when he faces the Eagles next week to conclude his second NFL season.

Barkley rushed 24 times for 112 yards and two touchdowns, also adding four receptions (on five targets) for 31 yards in the 36-20 victory. The superstar back has clearly been less than 100% this season, but he said he was feeling good ahead of Week 15, and it showed with his best performance of the year. Saquon should continue his late-season breakout next week against a Washington defense that college teammate Miles Sanders just stung for 172 total yards and two touchdowns.

This is a bit of a surprise after Barkley limped off after just dealing with a high-ankle sprain that forced him to miss the previous three games, but the Giants feel good about putting him back out there after briefly looking at him on the sidelines.

Barkley just broke a tackle on a third-quarter run against the Cardinals, but he was limping immediately and went over to the sideline. It's unclear what the injury is at this point, but it obviously would not be surprising if it's a re-aggravation of his high-ankle sprain. Barkley is currently getting locked at by trainers on the bench, and we'll update you as more information becomes available on his status.

Barkley is fully expected to return from his high-ankle sprain this Sunday against the Cardinals after missing the last three games. This full practice confirms that, barring a setback, the Giants will get their best player back as they look to make a run in the NFC East. You can immediately lock Barkley into Week 7 fantasy lineups as an elite RB1 option. The second-year back is arguably the top overall play this week, especially with Christian McCaffrey on a bye week.

However, Barkley is reportedly unlikely to play despite making great progress from the high-ankle sprain, which makes sense considering the Giants want to (and should) be smart about the long-term health of their generational talent. Don't be surprised if Barkley makes a push to play, but it's possible he's ruled out tomorrow when the final Week 5 injury report is released.

This is a good sign for the star running back's status for Thursday, but we'll see how he's listed tomorrow in what could be more of an actual practice. There's definite optimism about Barkley being able to go against the Patriots.

Barkley has made an impressive recovery from his high-ankle sprain, but he needs at least one more week before returning to game action. While the matchup won't be easy this weekend, Wayne Gallman can be played as a volume-based low-end RB2/FLEX option against the Vikings. Barkley owners will now look towards Week 6—a Thursday Night Football game in New England—but he's probably not a lock to suit up in a tough spot.

There's video of Barkley stretching, and he did not look hindered at all with his high-ankle sprain, but he is officially listed as a non-participant on the practice report. Giants head coach Pat Shurmur indicated that Barkley has a chance to play on Sunday, but he's likely to be out, as the team won't want to make the injury worse for their star player. We'll see if Barkley is given a shot to play when the final Week 5 injury report is released sometime tomorrow.

Multiple Giants reporters took video of Barkley getting some work in on the side during today's practice, and he looks very good after just suffering the high-ankle sprain under two weeks ago. Basically, Barkley appears to be one of those superhuman-like athletes that might be able to heal a lot quicker than anticipated. Eight weeks looks like the absolute worst-case scenario for Barkley's total missed time, and it won't be surprising if he's back for Week 7 against the Cardinals after the mini bye following New York's Week 6 Thursday night game a week from tomorrow. Especially if you feel you're in a good spot to make the playoffs in your league, buy low on Barkley if you can.

High-ankle sprains typically keep a player out from four-to-six weeks, but knowing Barkley, fantasy owners may be able to at least have some optimism that it will be on the short end of that timetable. Unfortunately, the Giants don't have their bye week until November, so Wayne Gallman will likely step in as the starter for games against the Redskins, Vikings, Patriots, and Cardinals over the next four weeks. Teams that started 3-0 and feel good about their playoff chances might be wise to target Saquon in a trade.

This isn't a surprise after the ankle injury looked pretty bad and Barkley had to be helped to the locker room, but hopefully the No. 1 overall pick in most 2019 fantasy drafts doesn't miss too much time with the injury. More information on Barkley's status moving forward should become available in the next 24 hours. UPDATE: Barkley is on a walking boot and crutches on the sideline, so it doesn't look good right now.

Barkley appeared to have his ankle twisted pretty badly late in the second quarter, and he was in obvious pain on the sideline. Hopefully the injury isn't as bad as it looks, but it might be difficult for Barkley to get back into today's game. Keep in mind the star running back is a freakish athlete, though, so a quick return wouldn't be a huge surprise.
Saquon Barkley says he doesn't think any number of touches is too high for him.
The second-year running back was asked if he thinks over 352 touches (the number of touches he received last season) would be too much for him, and he responded: "I don’t think any number is too high for me personally. At the end of the day, I know I sound like a broken record, but you will hear this for as long as I am in the NFL, as long as I take care of my body, my body will take care of me. I will continue to have my team around me. Obviously, have a great strength staff here and a great training staff here. Have to be a pro outside the facility. Whether it is 350 touches, 400 touches or less touches next year. Whatever I have to do to have this team compete for a championship, I am going to do." Barkley is a freak athlete that's a workout warrior and takes care of his body, and he should be able to handle a heavy workload every week. The only slight concern with Barkley not getting fed the ball every single week is if the Giants are out of contention late in the season and want to scale back their star player's workload to keep him healthy for future seasons. Barkley should probably be the No. 1 pick in all 2019 fantasy drafts.

Barkley carried 17 times for 109 yards and a touchdown along with four receptions for 33 yards in the Giants' Week 17 loss. The sensational rookie season for the No. 2 pick ends with 261 carries for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns along with 91 receptions for 721 yards and four touchdowns. Barkley hitting 2,000 scrimmage yards made him the third rookie in NFL history to accomplish the feat, joining Eric Dickerson and Edgerrin James, and his 91 receptions broke Reggie Bush's rookie running back record of 88 receptions. Again, we certainly do not think the Giants made a mistake by selecting Barkley second overall in the draft, despite all the talk in the media. Barkley is a generational player and leader that's arguably already the top running back in the league. There's no question Barkley deserves consideration for the top pick in 2019 fantasy drafts, which also should've been the case heading into the 2018 campaign.

Barkley rushed 21 times for 43 yards and a touchdown, also adding five receptions for 34 yards. Outside of a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that Saquon bounced to get in for six, Indy completely shut him down, lowering his yards-per-carry average for the season to 4.9. Still, the prized rookie already has 14 total touchdowns and will look to build on his standout campaign next week in the season finale against the Cowboys. Consider him an elite RB1.

Barkley rushed 14 times for 31 yards, also adding four receptions (on ten targets) for 25 yards. The weather played a factor, but Tennessee's defense consistently won up front, and it led to Barkley's worst game as a pro. Saquon finished with a somewhat respectable 5.6 standard fantasy points (9.6 in PPR leagues), though, and he will remain a high-end RB1 for the fantasy championship. New York takes on Indianapolis in Week 16.

Barkley rushed 14 times for 170 yards and a touchdown, also adding four receptions for 27 yards. The highlight was a 78-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and Barkley later had a sensational one-handed catch before mostly resting down the stretch in a 40-16 victory. Next week, Saquon will face a Tennessee defense that just held Leonard Fournette in check, but that shouldn't worry fantasy owners in the slightest. Keep the prized rookie in lineups as a high-end RB1 for Week 15.

Barkley carried 24 times for 125 yards along with three receptions for 21 yards against the Bears. This makes it three straight 100-yard-rushing games for Barkley, who's simply a beast of a runner that's playing exceptionally well. For the first week of the fantasy playoffs, Barkley faces a Redskins team that held him to 38 rushing yards back in Week 8, but the rookie running back is on a roll right now and should be considered one of the best fantasy options for Week 14.

Barkley carried 13 times for 101 yards and a touchdown and caught seven passes for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Week 12 loss. The star rookie running back did most of his damage in the first half with 15 touches, but the Giants curiously gave him just five touches in the second half of a very close game. Barkley's first score came on a quick pass up the middle that he basically walked into the end zone. And the second score was a 51-yard run where he received great blocking and was off to the races for 51 yards. Barkley has five touchdowns in the last two games, and he's obviously an excellent RB1 next week despite a tough matchup with the Bears.

Barkley carried 27 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for ten yards and a touchdown, as he was the workhorse in Pat Shurmur's offense. This was Barkley's career-high in carries, yardage, and touchdowns, and it's his second career game with 20+ carries after hitting 20 carries for the first time last week. It looks like the rookie is going to be given the ball a ton down the stretch, so he remains one of the top fantasy options every week.

Barkley rushed 20 times for 67 yards, also adding four receptions (on five targets) for 33 yards. The No. 2 overall pick was bottled up for most of the night, but he broke a couple big plays, including a 23-yard catch-and-run to set up Sterling Shepard's game-winning touchdown reception. We'll see if more running lanes open up for Barkley next week against the vulnerable Bucs, and he obviously remains an exciting RB1 down the stretch.

Washington again did an excellent job of shutting down a top-notch running back on the ground, limiting Barkley to 38 yards on 13 carries. Barkley made it a productive day with nine receptions (on ten targets) for 73 yards, though. Through half of his rookie season, the No. 2 pick in the draft is on pace for 222 carries, 1,038 rushing yards, ten rushing touchdowns, 116 receptions, 994 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns. He has a legit chance to become the first player since Marshall Faulk in 1999 to have 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in a season, which is pretty remarkable for a rookie. Barkley has a bye this week, so be sure to get him out of your Week 9 lineup.

Barkley carried 14 times for 43 yards and a touchdown and added nine receptions for 51 yards in the Week 7 loss. The No. 2 pick in the draft played well, as usual, but the Falcons did a nice job of bottling him up and not allowing any huge plays. This was Barkley's first career game without 100 yards from scrimmage, which indicates how good he's been to start his career. Next week, Barkley faces a Redskins team that just shut down Ezekiel Elliott yesterday, but the Penn State product is obviously an RB1 in fantasy lineups.

Barkley rushed 13 times for 130 yards and a touchdown, also adding nine receptions for 99 yards on 12 targets, all of which led the team. Basically, Saquon was the only source of offense in a 34-13 loss, and he made highlight play after highlight play against Philly's elite defensive front—so much so that he was compared to Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, and Earl Campbell by the FOX broadcast. The Giants should feed the No. 2 overall pick for the remainder of the season, and he looks like a weekly top-five play regardless of matchup. A case could be made for him as the top option at the position in Week 7 when New York takes on Atlanta.

Barkley was bottled up as a runner with 15 carries for 48 yards, but he added four receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns through the air, including a 57-yard score on a trick-play pass by Odell Beckham Jr. Not that it wasn't obvious already, but the game proved Saquon is a matchup-proof RB1, and there's a case to be made that he's already the best running back in the league. Barkley remains an elite option heading into a Thursday night matchup with the rival Eagles. The Penn State product has almost as many receiving yards (274) as rushing yards (308) through five games.

On a touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter against the Panthers, Barkley leaped into the end zone and appeared to maybe twist his right ankle. He looked to be in a lot of pain on the sidelines, but he was then seen laughing and smiling, so hopefully it's not too serious. We expect Barkley will re-enter the game if necessary, but it looks like the game should come down to Carolina's offense against New York's defense.

Barkley had ten carries for 44 yards and a touchdown and six receptions for 56 yards in the Week 4 loss to the Saints. The score came on a goal line carry where Barkley used his great vertical leaping ability to elevate and reach the ball over the goal line for six. Barkley was also targeted on a deep pass to the end zone, but it was easily deflected away. Through four games, the No. 2 overall pick is on pace for 224 carries, 1,040 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 108 receptions, and 772 receiving yards.

Barkley had another great game to start his NFL career, carrying 17 times for 82 yards and a touchdown along with five receptions (on five targets) for 35 yards. The score was a 15-yard touchdown in which Barkley went up the middle and then bounced outside when he got to the second level and brushed off a couple of Texans defenders on his way to the end zone. Keep Barkley locked in as an excellent RB1 for Week 4 against the Saints.

The Giants couldn’t get anything going on the ground, and they couldn’t really protect Eli Manning, so Barkley benefited from a lot of check-downs throughout the night. Overall, he had 11 carries for 28 yards and 14 receptions (on 16 targets) for 80 yards. The 14 receptions set a Giants franchise record, and it tied an NFL rookie record. Barkley rarely went down on first contact in the game, as he showed his exceptional athleticism while gaining positive yardage on his touches. Barkley remains a solid RB1 option for Week 3 against Houston.

The Jaguars did a nice job of bottling up Barkley for much of the afternoon, but the rookie running back is one of those guys that just needs to keep getting fed the ball because he has a good chance of eventually breaking one. The 68-yard touchdown was on a run that he bounced to the outside and broke a few arm tackles before showing great balance and breakaway speed down the right sideline. Overall, Barkley had 18 carries for 106 rushing yards and the touchdown while adding two receptions (six targets) for 22 receiving yards. Keep Barkley locked into lineups as a great RB1 next week against the Cowboys.

Barkley returned to practice in a limited capacity during the week, but it’s comforting to hear he’s now participating in team drills. New York’s prized rookie almost certainly isn’t going to play in the team’s final preseason game, but he should be 100% well before the season opener against Jacksonville. Barkley is currently being selected at the end of the first round in fantasy drafts, and he should be the clear workhorse ahead of Jonathan Stewart and Wayne Gallman.

Giants head coach Pat Shurmur told this to the gathered media at practice, as they were all probably holding their breath waiting to see what the No. 2 pick in the draft was going to do today. The good news is Barkley is progressing. It'd be nice to see him out there on Friday night, but Week 1 doesn't seem like much of a concern. The bigger concern is what Eli Manning said recently about Barkley missing "valuable time," but it sounds like he should be back to a full practice participant soon enough before September 9 against Jacksonville.

The veteran quarterback said that while his connection with Odell Beckham Jr. makes it less hurtful for the star receiver missing preseason reps, Barkley is just a rookie. Barkley is going to have a big role this season, obviously, but there’s a possibility his reps are slightly limited to start the season if he doesn’t fully recover from his hamstring injury soon. Meanwhile, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur says he likes “the path he’s on” for Week 1. Barkley’s hamstring injury is described as minor, but he might not play in the team’s third preseason game this week.

This is great to hear, as Barkley shouldn't miss much time, if any, with the hamstring tweak. The Giants will likely be cautious and wait for their No. 2 overall pick to get back to 100%, though. Barkley might not play in this Friday's preseason game versus the Lions, but he should be ready to go for the dress rehearsal game next week if not.
Saquon Barkley suffers apparent leg injury at practice.
According to reporters at the scene, Barkley caught a deep wheel route before coming up limping a bit. He now has his left leg wrapped. This could be something minor, but it's worth keeping an eye on. More information should become available later today, perhaps immediately after practice.
Pat Shurmur compared Saquon Barkley's ability as a receiver to Brian Westbrook's.
"[Saquon]’s got excellent ball skills," Shurmur said. "In terms of reminding me of backs, we all remember Brian Westbrook and guys like that, they are big time threats when you throw it to them." Westbrook had 442 career receptions in his nine NFL seasons, topping at least 60 receptions, 600 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns each season in a four-year stretch from 2004-2007. After the Giants took Barkley with the second pick in the draft, they're certainly going to use him a lot, and he could put up those type of receiving numbers as a rookie. Barkley should have a very high floor in 2018.
John Schmeelk of Giants.com projects Saquon Barkley at around 20-25 touches per game this season.
Schmeelk gave this total if he "had to guess," and it would include carries, receptions, and kick returns. Barkley is extremely explosive and can do a ton of damage on returns, but we'll see if the Giants want to use him there. If he can hit around that 20-25 mark on just offense, it'd put him among the league's top workhorses. There has been some talk of veteran Jonathan Stewart potentially taking some goal line touches from Barkley, but that's not a huge concern right now. The Giants drafted Barkley second overall for a reason, and he'll be used a lot as a rookie in 2018. Barkley must be selected in the first round of all fantasy drafts.

Three writers for Giants.com (John Schmeelk, Dan Salomone, and Lance Medow) all believe Barkley will hit the around the 20-touch mark as a rookie. The Giants drafted Barkley second overall, so obviously the thought has been that he'll be used a lot immediately; but it's still good to hear it from a few people that cover the team closely. As someone that is immensely talented and is expected to get a good amount of work, Barkley should be selected in the first round of all fantasy drafts in 2018.

After the Browns passed on quarterback Sam Darnold with the first overall pick, there was some thought that the Giants might take him as their future franchise quarterback. Instead, they have opted to select the best player in the draft and one of the greatest running back prospects of all-time in Saquon Barkley. The former Penn State star will immediately step into a huge role in the Giants offense, joining Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram, and others in a very talented group. As a rookie, Barkley will have a ton of scoring upside in what could be a much improved offense in 2018. He's a no-brainer RB1 selection in all fantasy drafts this summer.
