Sony Michel is inactive for Week 11.
Michel was activated off injured reserve yesterday, but he'll serve as more of a reserve and backup plan to Damien Harris as the team's primary ball-carrier for now. Michel would have upside if Harris were to miss time, but he's not a must-hold in redraft leagues.
Sony Michel (quad) is being activated off injured reserve.
Michel has missed the last six games with his quad issue, and the Patriots are activating him to ensure he doesn't spend the rest of the year on injured reserve. New England has an interesting running back group with Damien Harris and Rex Burkhead playing so well along with the reliable James White, but Michel has had success in the past with the Pats, including on a Super Bowl run a couple of seasons ago. We'd think Harris, who has three 100-yard outings in six games, will remain the lead ball-carrier for the Patriots moving forward, but Michel might have a notable role.
Sony Michel (quad) has returned to practice.
This activates Michel's 21-day practice window to either be taken off injured reserve or spend the year there. Michel's quad injury was thought to be minor in nature, so it's possible he's able to return to the lineup this Monday night against the Jets if he's activated to the 53-man roster over the weekend.
The Patriots are placing Sony Michel on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Michel is already on injured reserve with his quad injury, and now he has to get off the COVID-19 list on top of that. This doesn't mean that Michel has the virus, as he may have just been contract-traced to have been in close contact to someone else that tested positive.
The Patriots placed Sony Michel (quad) on injured reserve.
This escalated pretty quickly, as Michel was not thought to be in danger of missing tonight's game after an excellent performance in Week 3, but the former first-round pick will now miss at least the next three games with his quad injury. Michel is not a must-hold in fantasy leagues, especially if you do not have IR spots available.
Sony Michel (quad) has been ruled out for tonight's game.
This is a bit of a surprise, and it's tough timing for Michel coming off one of the better games of his career last week when he ran for 117 yards on just nine carries against the Raiders. Michel is not traveling with the team to Kansas City for tonight's game, and perhaps the third-year back being out means Damien Harris will be activated from injured reserve.
The Patriots have removed Sony Michel (foot) from the PUP list.
Michel returned to practice today after missing all of camp up to this point following offseason foot surgery. With 2019 third-round pick Damien Harris reportedly shining for the Pats this summer, it creates an interesting situation to have Michel back in the mix and presumably on track for Week 1. Given the way the Patriots handle things, we simply might not get much insight on the team’s backfield plans before the start of the season.
The Patriots have placed Sony Michel (foot) on the PUP list.
Michel is coming off offseason foot surgery, and he isn't quite ready for the start of camp. The running back situation for New England is very interesting after 2019 third-round pick Damien Harris was essentially redshirted last year, and we'll see how quickly the former first-rounder Michel is able to get back into the mix.
Sony Michel underwent foot surgery, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
Reiss says Michel had the surgery last month, adding that the procedure "was viewed as more maintenance-based to help relieve discomfort that Michel had been experiencing." However, the foot surgery puts the start of training camp, which is expected to begin in late July, in jeopardy for the third-year running back. Michel has missed just three games in two NFL seasons, but he's been banged up since the Patriots selected him in the first round of the 2018 draft. Hopefully the Georgia product gets to 100% soon and can continue being the lead ball-carrier for a New England offense moving forward without Tom Brady under center.
Sony Michel (illness) is officially active against the Dolphins.
Michel was downgraded to questionable yesterday, but the Patriots will have their starter, who will look to build on a season-high 96 rushing yards from last week’s win. Perhaps we will see more of James White and Rex Burkhead if Michel is still feeling under the weather, but he should be in all lineups as a top-15 option.
Sony Michel (illness) has been added to the Week 17 injury report.
Michel is now listed as questionable for tomorrow's contest against the Dolphins, and he is one of a number of players around the league that has caught some type of bug this week. The Patriots play at 1:00 PM ET tomorrow, so we'll know their starting running back's status by 11:30 AM ET.
Sony Michel sees just six touches in loss to the Chiefs.
Michel rushed five times for eight yards and caught a one-yard pass in the team's 23-16 defeat. All of the touches came in the first quarter (including four on the opening drive), so it's shocking that New England abandoned the run so quickly against a defense that Michel dominated in 2018. You would think next week has to be a spot where Michel will get going in Cincinnati, but the floor will probably leave him no better than low-end RB2 territory.
Sony Michel gets going in Patriots' Week 5 win.
Michel carried 16 times for 91 yards (5.7 yards per carry) and one touchdown along with three receptions for 32 yards against the Redskins. This was a game against a Redskins team the Patriots were heavily favored over, but it was still a promising performance for the second-year back—and it's worth noting that Michel's three receptions were the most of his career to this point. The Georgia product has the ability to contribute more as a receiver, but he hasn't been used much in that area through his first year-plus in the league. If Michel gets more involved in the passing game, he should be a clear fantasy RB1 in that offense. Next up, Michel and the Pats face the Giants on a short week this Thursday night.
Sony Michel (knee) is practicing today.
Michel is being taken off the PUP list after missing just two days of practice, which is a great sign for the second-year player. Coming off one of the greatest postseasons in NFL history for a running back, Michel should be locked in as New England's clear top runner despite the presence of third-round pick Damien Harris. Health and a lack of involvement in the passing game are the lone concerns with Michel in fantasy.
Sony Michel has been placed on the PUP list, according to ESPN's Field Yates.
The hope was that Michel would be ready for the start of training camp after offseason arthroscopic surgery, but he's not quite ready yet. Hopefully Michel is able to get close to 100% and on the field soon, especially with third-round rookie Damien Harris potentially pushing for immediate snaps in 2019 as a consistent player during his college career at Alabama. Michel can be taken off the PUP list at any time.
Sony Michel (knee) expects to be ready for the start of training camp.
NFL Network's Omar Ruiz caught up with Michel at this evening's Gatorade Player of the Year ceremony, and the Patriots running back said he's "working towards" being ready for the start of training camp on July 24, adding "that's the goal to be ready for training camp." Overall, the second-year player took the typical Patriots approach Bill Belichick would love to the questioning, declining to say whether his knee procedure this year is related to the issue from last summer, saying that "last year was last year. This is a whole new time. Anything can happen." NFL Network's Mike Giardi reported recently that Michel was making great progress from his knee scope, and it sounds like being ready the start of training camp should be a strong possibility for Michel. The Georgia product's health will be one of the biggest storylines to keep an eye on this summer.
Sony Michel is "progressing well" from arthroscopic knee surgery, according to NFL Network's Mike Giardi.
Giardi says the second-year running back "has been running full tilt" recently, and that he's been spending "considerable time" at Tom Brady's TB12 Sports Therapy Center recovering. TB12 has obviously worked for Brady as his level of play has not dropped off at all into his late 30s and early 40s, and hopefully Michel working at TB12 will help his knee issues become a thing of the past. It sounds like Michel should be ready to go for the start of training camp, and his fantasy value is probably dropping too much at this point considering the postseason run he had last season—if Michel is healthy, he should be a consistently-big part of New England's offense, which could be the best power-run attack in the league in 2019.
Sony Michel underwent a knee scope, according to The Athletic's Jeff Howe.
Howe says the scope is minor and Michel is expected back by training camp, but this obviously isn't a good sign for the second-year runner. New England spent a third-round pick on Alabama running back Damien Harris in the spring, so they probably have some legitimate concern about Michel. And if nothing else, Harris should get an extended opportunity with the starters at the beginning of camp, which makes him a guy worth aggressively targeting in dynasty leagues and early drafts.
Sony Michel scores game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LIII.
Michel carried 18 times for 94 yards and a touchdown, with the score coming on a one-yarder with seven minutes remaining in the game, putting the Patriots up for good in a low-scoring defensive battle. The touchdown was the lone non-field-goal of the 13-3 victory, and obviously this was quite the way for the Georgia product to end his rookie season. Michel wasn't heavily involved as a receiver this season and had some inconsistency there, but he had 931 rushing yards during the regular season and was even better in the postseason, setting an NFL rookie record with six rushing scores in the playoffs. Patriots running backs and skill position players can be frustrating for fantasy purposes, but Michel has undeniable high-end RB1 upside as he enters his second NFL season. Michel might end up going in the third round of most fantasy drafts this summer.
Sony Michel scores twice in AFC Championship win.
Michel rushed 29 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns, which brings his playoff total to five in just a couple games. New England's first-round pick was actually on the sidelines in favor of Rex Burkhead—who scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime—late in the contest, but Michel will undoubtedly be a huge factor and a threat for 30-plus touches in the Super Bowl against Los Angeles.
Sony Michel goes off in playoff victory.
Michel rushed 24 times for 129 yards and three touchdowns, also adding a nine-yard reception. The Chargers simply had no answers for the New England ground game, as Michel found the end zone three times in the first half as the Pats jumped out to a 35-7 lead. We should see a heavy dose of the Georgia product next Sunday in the AFC Championship Game against Kansas City.
Sony Michel rushed 14 times for 50 yards in Sunday's win over the Jets.
Michel ends his first regular season with 209 carries for 931 yards (4.5 YPC) and six touchdowns, also adding seven receptions for 50 yards. The Georgia product will be the focal point of the rushing attack next month and perhaps into February as the Patriots look to bring home their sixth Lombardi Trophy.
Sony Michel scores against the Bills.
Michel carried 18 times for 116 yards and a touchdown in the Patriots' Week 16 win. After a relatively quiet past few weeks for New England's running game, this was a strong effort against a tough defense. Michel will look to keep things going heading into the postseason when he faces a Jets team he had 133 yards and a touchdown against earlier this season. The rookie running back will be at least an RB2 option for Week 17 with fantasy titles on the line.
Sony Michel gets 13 carries in Week 15.
Michel gained 59 yards on his 13 attempts against the Steelers. Pittsburgh did a good job of limiting the rushing attack of New England, and the rookie running back didn't have much room to run with his opportunities. Michel has been held to rushing yardage totals of 63, 57, and 59 the last three weeks, but at least he's offering a solid floor in fantasy lineups. He should still be considered a strong starting option for Week 16 at home against the Bills in the first week of fantasy championships.
Sony Michel gets 20 carries in Week 14.
Michel gained 57 yards on his 20 attempts against the Dolphins, as Miami did an excellent job of stopping the rushing attack of New England. Fullback James Develin scored another goal-line touchdown, which likely angered fantasy owners with Michel, but that's just how it goes sometimes. Despite a disappointing last couple of weeks, Michel has multi-touchdown upside in the second week of the fantasy playoffs next week against the Steelers.
Sony Michel totals 70 yards against the Vikings.
Michel carried 17 times for 63 yards and caught one pass for seven yards in the Patriots' Week 13 victory. Minnesota is a tough defense, but Michel had a fine game by picking up positive yardage to help keep his offense ahead of the chains. The only downside to the game was that fullback James Develin punched in a couple of goal-line carries for touchdowns, but that's just how things go sometimes. As expected, the rookie running back remained the clear lead runner with Rex Burkhead back in the lineup, and he'll likely continue to be the lead ball-carrier next week against the Dolphins. Michel is back in the RB1 mix in an easier matchup to open the fantasy playoffs.
Sony Michel goes over 130 yards with a touchdown in Patriots' win.
Michel carried 21 times for 133 yards and a touchdown along with two receptions for 12 yards against the Jets. The score came at the goal line, and it was after Michel briefly left with what looked like a back injury that might keep him out the rest of the game, so it was good to see him return. The 133 rushing yards was a career-high for the impressive rookie running back, and he'll look to keep it going next week against the Vikings. Minnesota is a difficult matchup, but Michel is still at least an RB2 option in fantasy lineups given his ability and scoring upside in a good offense.
Sony Michel has returned for the Patriots.
Thankfully whatever Michel was dealing with isn't too serious, as he's back in the game against the Jets. He'll be relied upon as the Patriots attempt to keep their fourth-quarter lead.
Sony Michel leaves game with apparent back injury.
Michel was just bent backward pretty awkwardly on a third-and-short rushing attempt against the Jets, and he immediately stayed on the ground before eventually getting up and walking very gingerly to the sideline. It doesn't look great, but hopefully the rookie running back is able to return to the game. We'll update you as more information becomes available.
Sony Michel held in check after two-week absence.
Michel rushed 11 times for 31 yards as the Patriots were dominated by Tennessee, 34-10. New England's first-round pick didn't start or really get featured, which was a slight surprise considering he was active despite the bye in Week 11. Hopefully a week off will give the rookie time to get to 100% if he wasn't already, and Michel should be the centerpiece of the running game down the stretch as at least a high-end RB2 for fantasy purposes.
Sony Michel (knee) is officially active for the Patriots.
Michel was limited in practice all week and was listed as questionable on the final Week 10 injury report, but he’s been expected to return today against the Titans. In a matchup with the league’s No. 1 scoring defense, consider Michel more of an RB2 option than an RB1 for this week.
Sony Michel (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday.
Michel is expected to play against the Titans in a couple days, but it's no lock, especially considering the Patriots have a Week 11 bye and might not want to rush their star rookie runner. Check back in on Sunday at 11:30 AM ET to confirm Michel is active for Week 10.
Sony Michel (knee) remains limited in practice.
Michel is almost certain to remain limited tomorrow, and he’ll likely be listed as questionable when the final injury report is released. He is fully expected to play though.
Sony Michel (knee) was limited in today's practice.
Michel is expected to play this weekend against the Titans after missing the last two games with his knee injury, but he's likely to be limited in practice all week. We'll keep track of the rookie running back's practice status throughout the week.
Sony Michel (knee) is inactive for tonight’s game.
Michel, who said he’d play on one leg for his teammates, wanted to be out there tonight versus the Packers, but the team is opting to hold him out. James White should be set for a heavy workload, and Cordarrelle Patterson should get some carries like he did last week against Buffalo. Michel should have a chance to play against the Titans next week, but keep in mind the Patriots’ bye week is the week after.
Sony Michel (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Week 9.
Michel was limited in practice all week, and it looks like he has a legitimate shot to be active against the Packers on Sunday night. He said if it's up to him he'll play, indicating he has a good chance of playing, but the training staff and coaching staff will ultimately make the final decision. If active, Michel should probably be downgraded to more of an RB2 option in case he’s limited, but he has top-five upside if he’s close to 100% in a game he could get a lot of scoring opportunities in. However, fantasy owners are in a potential predicament with New England not playing until night, so Michel’s status might not be known until after the rest of Sunday’s games have all kicked off.
Sony Michel (knee) was limited in today's practice.
Michel stringing together limited practices is a good sign for his Week 9 status. The rookie running back has been playing (and playing well) without full practices this season, so he could certainly play with three limited practices this week. We'll see how Michel is listed on the official injury report for Sunday night when it's released tomorrow.
Sony Michel (knee) was officially listed in today's practice.
This is a good start to the week for Michel, who probably has a legit chance to play on Sunday night against the Packers. We'll keep track of his practice status throughout the week, but keep in mind the rookie running back's status might not be known until after all the other Week 9 Sunday games have kicked off.
Sony Michel (knee) has been ruled out for Week 8.
Michel was listed as doubtful and presumably didn't make the trip to Buffalo with the team. It'll be James White leading New England's backfield tomorrow night, but Kenjon Barner could also get a lot of work and is worth a look in fantasy lineups as a FLEX option. Michel was able to be limited in yesterday's practice, so perhaps he'll be ready to go for next Sunday night against the Packers.
Sony Michel (knee) is listed as doubtful for Week 8.
Michel was able to get in a limited practice today, which is a big positive for his status moving forward, but he's likely out for Monday night against the Bills. Check back in Monday night, but expect James White and Kenjon Barner to lead New England's backfield this week.
Sony Michel (knee) did not practice today.
Michel is likely to miss Monday night's game against Buffalo, and the team might rule him out tomorrow when the official Week 8 game statuses are released. James White and Kenjon Barner are likely to lead New England's backfield this week.
Sony Michel (knee) did not practice today.
Michel is reportedly unlikely to play in Week 8, so don't expect him to practice this week. We'll update you if anything changes with his practice status the next two days.
Sony Michel's knee injury is not serious, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Michel's MRI led to good news after it looked like he might have suffered a serious leg injury in yesterday's win against the Bears. Rapoport says the timetable for Michel isn't clear and that "he could still miss time, but it may not be much." For now, consider Michel questionable to face the Bills one week from tonight. Losing Michel would have been a big blow to the Patriots (and fantasy owners), so expect the team to take things slow and ensure their star rookie runner is very close to 100% before returning to the field. We'll of course track Michel's practice status throughout the week.
Sony Michel has been ruled out for the rest of today's game.
The Patriots didn't disclose the exact location of the leg injury for Michel, but this was expected. Now we just have to hope the injury to the rookie running back isn't as serious as it looks. Kenjon Barner will take on a bigger role behind James White for the rest of today's game against the Bears.
Sony Michel suffers apparent leg injury against the Bears.
Michel just had his lower leg twisted awkwardly and fumbled on the play, and he had to be helped to the sideline. It's not a good sign that the pain apparently caused Michel to drop the ball and fumble, and it has the look of a potentially serious injury. Hopefully this ins't as bad as it looks, and we'll update you as more information becomes available on the exceptional rookie running back.
Sony Michel (knee) is officially active for Week 7.
Michel was again listed as questionable coming into the weekend, but he’d probably be getting probable tags if the NFL still offered them as an injury designation. The rookie running back is a great play in fantasy lineups, even against a Bears defense that’s top-two in standard fantasy points allowed against running backs this season.
Sony Michel (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 7.
If there was a probable designation, Michel would almost certainly be listed as that. Check back in on Sunday morning for the rookie running back's status, but it would be a major surprise if Michel is inactive against the Bears.
S0ny Michel (knee) was limited in today's practice.
The rookie running back continues to be limited, but he's not showing any affects during games. We'll update you if anything changes, but expect Michel to be out there on Sunday against the Bears. The Georgia product has 316 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns in the last three weeks, so he's obviously an excellent option in fantasy lineups.
Sony Michel goes for 100 yards, two scores in win over the Chiefs.
Michael rushed 24 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came in the first half from inside the five-yard line. New England’s first-round pick has gone over 98+ rushing yards in each of the past three games with four touchdowns over that span, and he should be treated as a weekly RB1 in all formats if he wasn’t already. The only thing that could derail Michel at this point is health, but he does get a difficult matchup against the Bears next Sunday.
Sony Michel (knee) is officially active against the Chiefs.
Some reports said Michel would be a game-time call, but there was never much concern about the rookie running back's status. You can safely insert Michel into fantasy lineups as a strong RB1 option in a gem where a lot of points might be scored.
Sony Michel (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday night.
Michel was limited in practice all week, but he's expected to be ready to go for a big matchup against the Chiefs. Be sure to check back in on Sunday night, but you should be able to safely insert the rookie running back into Week 6 fantasy lineups as a great RB1/RB2 option.
Sony Michel (knee) remains limited in practice.
There's not much doubt about Michel's Week 6 status, but we'll see how he's listed on the official injury report for the game when it's released tomorrow.
Sony Michel (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice.
It's only Wednesday, and limited practices to start the week could become routine for the rookie running back. He's already shown he can play without a full practice participation during the week, and there aren't any concerns about his status for Sunday night against the Chiefs.
Sony Michel totals 110 yards, one score in win over the Colts.
Michel rushed 18 times for 98 yards and a touchdown, which came from 34 yards away in the fourth quarter. He also caught a 12-yard pass. Despite James White (12 touches for 77 yards and a score) putting up numbers again, it's clear that Michel is the clear lead back for New England, particularly as a runner, and he deserves every-week RB1/RB2 consideration. Against the poor-tackling Chiefs next Sunday night, Michel will likely be ranked as a top-eight option in standard leagues.
Sony Michel operates as workhorse in 38-7 win over the Dolphins.
Michel rushed 25 times for 112 yards and a score; he wasn't a factor in the passing game. New England clearly has big things in store for their first-round pick, and it looks like they want to create a balanced offense more so than in recent years. Michel is unlikely to be a high-volume pass-catcher this season, but he's trending towards legitimate RB1 status in standard leagues as the lead back of an offense that's only going to get better. Get the rookie in lineups this Thursday night against the Colts.
Sony Michel operates as clear lead back in Week 3 loss.
Michael rushed 14 times for 50 yards against the Lions, also catching a pass for negative-one yards. The Patriots were clearly committed to feeding their first-round pick, but he was bottled up all night, and it’s fair to wonder if the offense would have had more success trying to pass the ball on early downs. Also, Michel largely struggled in the passing game on back-to-back plays that caused a glare and a slight head shake from Tom Brady. Knowing how often New England switches their game plan, fantasy owners probably shouldn’t get too comfortable with the Georgia product working as the lead back, but he definitely has a ton of upside if that remains the case. Now might be the time to skeptically buy low, especially with Rex Burkhead (neck) dealing with another injury.
Sony Michel gets 11 touches in NFL debut.
After missing nearly all summer and the first week of the season with a knee issue, the first-round rookie running back from Georgia immediately had a sizable role in the Patriots backfield, working as the lead ball-carrier in a big matchup with the Jaguars. Michel carried ten times for 34 yards and added one reception for seven yards in the loss. Rex Burkhead started the game, but Michel received most of the carries throughout the game and seems to be the preferred early-down runner for the Patriots. Perhaps New England thought Michel had a better opportunity to pop a long run against a stingy defense, but Michel owner should be excited about this first game. Michel has 15-20 touch potential in a great offense moving forward, so be sure to pick him up if he's somehow available in your league. We'll see how much work he gets in Week 3 versus Detroit.
Sony Michel (knee) is officially active for Week 2.
The explosive first-round rookie running back will make his NFL debut in a big matchup in Jacksonville versus the Jaguars. Michel is difficult to trust in fantasy lineups in his first NFL action, but it’ll be fun to watch him hit the field.
Sony Michel (knee) is expected to make his NFL debut today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Michel missed most of the summer after a procedure on his knee in early August, and he missed Week 1's win against the Texans. The first-round rookie running back has been limited in practice since the start of the regular season, but the Patriots feel good enough about him that they're apparently making him active for a big Week 2 matchup against the Jaguars. Michel is difficult to trust in his first game after missing so much time, but he has a lot of season-long upside and is a strong roster hold.
Sony Michel (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Week 2.
Michel again was limited in practice all week, which indicates his chances aren't great of playing this Sunday against the Jags. However, Rex Burkhead remains in concussion protocol, which might mean Michel is pressed into a role. Michel's status will be official by around 3:00 PM ET on Sunday.
Sony Michel (knee) remains limited in practice.
Limited practices might not be enough for the rookie running back to make his NFL debut, but we'll see how he's listed on the official injury report for the game tomorrow. If teammate Rex Burkhead isn't cleared from concussion protocol, it might make Michel a necessary active on Sunday regardless if he becomes a full practice participant, though.
Sony Michel (knee) was a limited participant in practice today.
Michel's status for Week 2 against the Jaguars is still up in the air, but if he makes his NFL debut, the rookie might be the team's main between-the-tackles runner with Rex Burkhead dealing with a concussion. If Michel is available, he should be picked up in all leagues as an upside bench stash.
Sony Michel (hamstring) is inactive for the season opener.
The rookie running back was limited in practice all week after missing most of the summer, so this was fully expected. Rex Burkhead, James White, and Jeremy Hill will carry the load at running back for New England versus Houston. Michel is probably going to need to work his way into a full practice participant before the Patriots activate him on gameday.
Sony Michel (knee) is officially questionable for Week 1.
Michel was a limited participant again in today's practice, making it three official limited participations for him this week. That makes it unlikely for him to play on Sunday against the Texans, as he was already behind after missing a few weeks during the summer. We'll see what happens on Sunday morning when actives and inactives are released, but expect Michel to be out for Week 1.
Sony Michel (hamstring) remains limited in practice.
Perhaps the rookie running back can notch a full participation tomorrow, but there’s a chance he’s simply ruled out ahead of the weekend if he remains limited. We’ll update you on Michel’s game status tomorrow.
Sony Michel (knee) was limited in practice.
It's the first official practice of the week, so being limited isn't the worst thing in the world. Bill Belihcik admitted the rookie running back has some catching up to do, but that he's doing a good job at it. It's still early, but we would lean towards Michel not playing in Week 1, especially if he isn't able to get in a full practice by Friday.
Sony Michel (knee) returned to Patriots practice, according to multiple reports.
Michel is likely practicing on a limited basis, but it's still a good sign that he's back on the practice field for the first time since August 1. The first-round running back now has just under a couple of weeks to get back in the swing of things for Week 1 against the Texans. Michel's ADP has dropped since the injury, as New England's running back situation remains a mystery—and there is not likely to be much clarity heading into the season. A couple of things that are certain is that Michel is a very talented player and plays in one of the league's best offenses.
Sony Michel will miss at least ten days after a knee procedure.
This is according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, who says Michel had a procedure to drain his knee. The Patriots have a lot of options in the backfield, so the missed time might be difficult for the rookie to make up. However, New England obviously selected Michel in the first round because they really like him, so he certainly shouldn’t be counted out for a big role yet. Assuming Michel is able to get back as soon as expected, it’ll be interesting to see how the backfield rotation looks in the third (and potentially second) preseason game.
The Patriots have selected Georgia running back Sony Michel with the No. 31 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
While the Patriots have a stacked running back depth chart at the moment, there aren't better spots for Michel to land than in New England. Michel is the third running back off the board after Saquon Barkley (Giants) and Rashaad Penny (Seahawks). He is a versatile player that should contribute immediately for the Patriots, but his playing time might come down to how well he pass protects—if he doesn't keep Tom Brady upright, it's going to be difficult to remain on the field. It's possible Michel leads the New England backfield this season, in which case he would obviously have big-time fantasy upside. In dynasty leagues, Michel has huge long-term potential and is probably the best option outside of Barkley.
