It has been rumored for weeks, and the NFL has made it official; this season of Hard Knocks will feature the Los Angeles teams: the Rams and the Chargers.

The press announcement for this season of Hard Knocks reads in part:
In an unprecedented programming move, the 2020 edition of the venerable series will spotlight both Los Angeles NFL teams: The Los Angeles Chargers of the AFC West and the Los Angeles Rams of the NFC West. The two franchises are set to share the spectacular new 70,000-seat SoFi stadium that is nearing completion in Inglewood, California.
Both Los Angeles teams revamped their team uniforms in a major way this offseason, and they are both looking to get back to the postseason after taking a step back from their respective 2018 playoff campaigns last year.
The Rams and the Chargers have revamped their teams a bit over the past few months. The NFC’s Rams are without former Offensive Player of the Year Todd Gurley and defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, while the AFC’s Chargers will be without veteran quarterback Philip Rivers for the first time since he was drafted in 2004.
The opening of the brand-new SoFi Stadium is an interesting storyline, especially with the Chargers seen by some as the second fiddle in Los Angeles. We’ll see if this summer somehow takes the rivalry up a notch for teams that only see each other in the regular season every four years.
HBO’s Hard Knocks has never featured two teams like this, so the dynamic and the storytelling could be a refreshing change for a series that relies on big personalities among the coaches and players.
Hard Knocks: Los Angeles will premiere on Sunday, August 11 at 10:00 PM ET/PT on HBO.
